Dr. Sura Hassan was born and raised in Michigan where she also completed her undergraduate studies. She attended optometry school at the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago, graduating with honors in 2012. During her time there, she was a member of the BSK Honor Society, the President of the school’s COVD club (College of Optometrists in Vision Development), and an active member of the Contact Lens Club. She also received the American Public Health Association Vision Section Outstanding Student Project Award for a project that educated marginalized women and children about the importance of eye health.
In 2016, Dr. Hassan moved to the Bay Area and was happy to join the River Oaks Family Optometry team.
Dr. Hassan brings with her extensive experience in fitting specialty contact lenses. These are most beneficial for patients with corneal irregularities such as Keratoconus. Specialty contact lenses can be life changing for individuals who are unable to attain functional vision with the use of routine glasses or contacts. Dr. Hassan finds pleasure in being able to assist such patients to achieve functional vision for a better quality of life.
Dr. Hassan aims to improve the quality of life of each of her patients by providing the best possible eye care and considering each patient’s specific needs in work, school, or daily life.
Dr. Hassan enjoys volunteering with local non-profits and exploring the beauty of nature through travel and leisurely hiking.
